When Selling Your House Don’t Overdo It When Landscaping

Although you may be able to think of all sorts of cool things you can do to make the grounds into a paradise remember that every dollar you spend in remodeling inside or out will be money out of your profit at the end of the sale.

Many people actually take out loans and run up their credit card debt to buy items and supplies for the redecorating and landscaping of the home they are selling. While you must make sure that the whole house, including and especially the outside areas, are looking top notch, going into further debt to make it happen just doesn’t make practical sense.

Much of what is really and truly necessary to create a nice yard and good curb appeal has more to do with elbow grease, time spent, and a few items to neaten up the area and make it pop when people drive by. Just keeping the lawn green, weed free, and mowed to perfection will have quite a nice effect on the general appearance of the house. That simply requires your usual lawn mower and some of your time. If you don’t have time to keep it as it should be, you can usually hire someone fairly cheaply to mow it for you.

You’ll be surprised at how nicely your landscaping will look with just a little solid effort.

Get the lines clear on where the driveway ends and the lawn begins, where the walkway ends and the yard begins, and clearly delineate the flower beds. Edge the driveway and walkways. Put in edging material of some sort along the edges and around the borders of the flower and vegetable gardens. You can buy some inexpensive flexible border that will fit almost any shape. If you don’t want to spend even that much money, collect some similar sized larger rocks and place them along the edges. What you’re trying to do is create a very neat separation of areas. You can also put in cedar or other wood chips or gravel in places that used to be sparse grass or dirt.

Keep your expenditures down and your appearances up for best results when it comes to the profit at the end of the sale. If after all your efforts you still think the yard needs something extra, consider planting some bright yellow flowers in the garden or in a large pot at the entry.
